THE YOUTH EMPLOYMENT SERVICE (YES) INITIATIVE
The Youth Employment Service (YES) Initiative is a business-driven initiative which is breaking new ground by pioneering a partnership with government and labour in collectively tackling a national plan to build economic pathways for black youth. It aims to contribute towards building and strengthening our economy by alleviating youth unemployment, which is currently at 55.2% (Statistics South Africa, 2019).
The target set is the creation of one million new jobs.

YES-4-Youth (Youth Employment Service) is a business-led collaboration that seeks out ground-breaking ways, through innovation and technological best practice, to reignite the economy and give youth a dignified first chance at employment.
The YES-4-Youth initiative provides youth with a 12-month quality work
experience which will then equip them with a toolkit of skills and experience to be a beacon of hope for their families, households and communities.
-
Youth can be placed in a sponsor’s own business or, if the sponsor prefers to outsource the placement, to a Host Site to facilitate their placement.
-
Youth then attend various workshops that will introduce themselves to new ways to integrate them into the working world and provide them with valuable working experience.
-
At the end of the 12 months, upon successful completion, each candidate receives a YES CV and reference letter.
-
Corporates who sponsor candidates through the Yes-4-Youth programme not only contribute towards solving South Africa’s youth unemployment problem, but can also improve their B-BBEE rating by up to 2 levels.

“YES recognises the critical role the youth play in shaping our economy and our country, yet six million young people are shut out of the economy. This is why we at YES seek out ground breaking ways, through innovation and technological best practice to create one million jobs for South Africa’s youth. The only way to reduce inequality is to get us all into work, to build incomes and to invest inclusively.
Now is the time to lend a hand.”
